Updated your Galaxy S24 to One UI 9? Try these features first

Updated your Galaxy S24 to One UI 9? Try these features first

The stable One UI 9 update began reaching more Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, and S24 FE owners in the second week of October. If you̢۪ve installed it, there̢۪s more to explore than the changes you notice straight away.

You̢۪ll probably spot the Quick Panel tweaks soon enough. Some of the other additions need a little setting up, or a trip into an app you may not have opened recently. Here are seven things to try.

Give someone their own FanCam

Got a video of a concert, school performance, or family gathering? My FanCam can create a version that follows one person you select, cropping the recording and adjusting the framing as they move.

It works with existing recordings, including videos taken before the One UI 9 update, so you can try it with your older clips as well.

Open the video in Gallery, tap the Galaxy AI icon, and select My FanCam. Choose the person, orientation, and aspect ratio, then tap Follow.

If the phone can̢۪t find the person you want, move the seek bar to a point where they̢۪re clearly visible and try again. You can save the result as a copy while keeping the original recording.

Customize the Quick Panel to your liking

One UI 9 gives you more control over the brightness slider, volume slider, and media player. You can resize them and separate the sound mode button from the volume control.

Open the Quick Panel and tap the pencil-shaped edit button to experiment with the layout.

If you rarely touch the volume slider but regularly adjust brightness, for example, you can resize those controls accordingly. Try a few arrangements to see which works best for you.

Put Finder and Google Search on your home screen

One UI 9 lets you put a Samsung Finder search bar on the home screen so you can quickly search for content on your phone, including apps, settings, and files, instead of first opening the app drawer and tapping the search field there.

Open Settings > Home screen > Show search on Home screen and enable Finder. You can also add a Google Search bar to the home screen.

Tell Now Brief what you want to see

Custom cards let you choose information from weather, health, or video categories and decide when it should appear in Now Brief.

You could create a weather card for the morning or a health card showing your sleep information and steps.

Go to Settings > Galaxy AI > Now brief > Custom cards and tap +. Choose the content and schedule, generate the card, and check the preview before saving it. Follow any setup prompts the first time.

You can keep up to three custom cards at once.

See what your AI assistant has been doing

If you use an AI assistant to complete tasks, AI assistant activity lets you check those actions afterward. For example, you can review activity after asking Gemini to add something to Samsung Reminder.

Open Settings > Security and privacy > AI assistant activity, then choose the assistant you want to check. You can view entries from the last 24 hours or last seven days, and tap an entry for more details.

Cover answers in Samsung Notes

Samsung Notes̢۪ new Tape tool lets you cover part of a note and reveal it when needed.

If you use your phone to study, you could cover the answers beneath a set of questions and test yourself before revealing them. You can choose between solid colors and various patterns for the tape.

Check out the video below to see the Tape tool in action.

Enlarge text or have it read aloud

Under Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements, you̢۪ll find Text spotlight and Select to speak.

Text spotlight puts selected text in its own enlarged window, with options to adjust the font size and colors. Select to speak can read selected content aloud without enabling full TalkBack.

If small text in an app is difficult to read, try Text spotlight before changing your phone̢۪s font size for everything.

Bonus: Try Motion Assist on your next car or bus ride

If reading or scrolling on your phone in a moving vehicle makes you feel queasy, try Motion Assist.

This Google feature displays moving shapes on the screen that respond to the vehicle̢۪s movement. Those visual cues may help reduce motion sickness while you use your phone.

Search for Motion Assist in Settings. You can enable Start in a moving vehicle for automatic activation or choose Add tile to Quick Settings to control it from the Quick Panel.

You can also change the shapes, colors, and visibility of the indicators. Our dedicated Motion Assist guide explains the setup and customization options.
